An appointment has now been made with the following announcement released by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University.
I am delighted to share with you the appointment of Professor Rachel Gibson as the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health, following a comprehensive recruitment process.
Rachel has a depth of leadership experience at university and faculty level, and in research, education and external engagement. Rachel joins us from the University of Adelaide where she is currently the Head of School: Allied Health Science and Practice, and Co-Head of the Cancer Treatment Toxicities Group.
Rachel has further held executive leadership roles in the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC), during which time she co-led a project team of international clinicians, allied health professionals and scientists to produce evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for Gastrointestinal Mucositis, which are currently being used globally for managing cancer patients with gastrointestinal mucositis. In 2019, Rachel was awarded the MASCC Distinguished Service Award for her contribution to supportive care in cancer.
Over the past 15 years, Rachel has further worked extensively with pharmaceutical companies, looking specifically at gastrointestinal toxicity following cancer treatment, resulting in her appointment as an Advisory Board Member.
Rachel is looking forward to joining UC and is excited about the potential for expanding the Faculty’s community engagement, strengthening ties with the ACT Government, and highlighting the impact of the Faculty more broadly. She mentioned that she is unashamedly student focused and passionate about ensuring that students have an excellent learning and teaching experience, including mentorship.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Prof Stuart Semple for his valued contribution to the Faculty of Health, and the senior leadership of the University while acting in the role of Executive Dean.
