An appointment has now been made with the following announcement released by Western Sydney University.
Western Sydney University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Michail (Mike) Kagioglou as the inaugural Dean of the new School of Engineering. Professor Kagioglou will also be Provost for the University’s Penrith campus, and responsible for developing the University’s United Kingdom (UK) and Europe engagement strategy.
He joins the University from the University of Huddersfield, UK, where he is currently the Dean of Art, Design and Architecture. He will take up his appointment at Western Sydney University in March 2020 and will be based at the Penrith campus.
Professor Kagioglou’s career spans the disciplines of engineering, manufacturing, creativity, design, architecture and the built environment, and he has engaged in inter and multi-disciplinary research, at a global level. His current research focuses on process issues in healthcare infrastructure.
Professor Denise Kirkpatrick, Acting Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, congratulated Professor Kagioglou on his appointment.
“We are thrilled to welcome Professor Kagioglou to Western. He brings extensive international experience to our School of Engineering, adding to our existing strengths. His breadth of engagement and practice will contribute into Western’s multidisciplinary research and teaching and our Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Cluster,” said Professor Kirkpatrick.
Professor Kagioglou said he is delighted to join the School of Engineering.

Prior to joining Huddersfield, Professor Kagioglou was the Head of the School of Built Environment at the University of Salford, UK. He was also the Academic Director for the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded interdisciplinary Health and Care Infrastructures Research and Innovation Centre, and was previously the Director of the EPSRC Salford Centre for Research and Innovation in the Built and Human Environment.
Professor Kagioglou is a board member of the Global Leadership Forum in Construction Engineering Management; Fellow and acting Chair of the Chartered Institute of Building, Innovation and Research Committee; a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors; and Vice-President of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction.
